MABEL DEE ROWAN, REGISTERED NURSE, DIED HERE TUESDAY

Mabel Dee Rowan, a registered nurse for nearly 41 years passed away Tuesday, July 18 at Memorial Community Hospital at the age of 65.

Mabel Rowan was the daughter of the Walter Wrights, both deceased and was born June 1, 1896 south of Blair near the Wranch School District. Following her graduation from High School she enrolled at the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Omaha and was graduated in 1920. She continued her nursing career at the hospital for many years.

Survivors include two brothers, James H. Wright of Kansas City, Missouri and Chauncey Wright of Blair; two sisters, Sadie F. Wright of California and Theresa Mae Skow of Omaha, and a number of nephews and nieces.

Having served as a registered nurse for 41 years, Mabel Rowan was influential in persuading a niece, Mrs. John Heumann of Ft. Calhoun, the former Charlotte Wright, to study nursing (as young people are needed in the nursing field). The niece subsequently graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing.

Mabel Rowan made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Wright for many years.

Except for a visit to New York and California when it was believed a change of climate might be beneficial for her health, Mable Rowan spent most of her life in the area.
