Dr. Norma M. Fairchild, 80, a retired eye specialist, died Thursday at Los Angeles after a three-week illness.

She was a graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and began practice with Dr. Palmer Findley in obstetrics and women's and children's diseases. Later she was associated with Dr. Harold Gifford, Sr., for 12 years as an eye specialist, during which time she also taught at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. Dr. Fairchild for many years was the only Nebraska woman to be a member of the American College of Surgery.

She made two trips to India, where she did clinical and operative eye work and for a year was in charge of a hospital at Binrdaban.

Dr. Fairchild made her home in Los Angeles the last 23 years. During World War II she had charge of the eye department at a government shipyard at Richmond, Cal.

Survivors are three brothers, Ralph, Tucson, Ariz., Edgar, Minden, Neb., Aubrey, Seattle; three sisters, Mrs. Lysle Crapenhoft, New Port Richey, Fla., Mrs. William Johnsen and Mrs. Maynard Isaacson, both of Omaha.

The body is being returned to Omaha. Crosby-Kunold Mortuary will be in charge. Burial will be at Kennard, Neb.

Note: Dr. Fairchild was born 28 February 1883 and passed away 28 March 1963.
