Aura B. “Babe” McBride, 91

Services were Monday, March 18 at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare, North Dakota for Aura B. “Babe” McBride, 91 of Kenmare who died March 13, 1991 at the Kenmare Community Hospital. Rev. John Amundson officiated. Burial was in the Lakeview Cemetery at Kenmare.

Aura B. McBride was born January 10, 1900 at Connorsville Wisconsin to George and Anna Long Monteith. The family moved to the Lakota area when she was a young girl and she graduated from high school and received her teaching certificate from Mayville Normal School.

She moved to Kenmare in 1923 and taught school there for over 25 years.

She was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church and Mary Circle and the Silver Link Rebekah Lodge at Kenmare. She was instrumental in starting the Girl Scouts in Kenmare and was active in both acting and directing the Kenmare Opera when it was open there. While teaching, she coached the girls basketball team to two state championship titles.

She married J. Vernon McBride December 25, 1927. He preceded her in death December 25, 1977.

A daughter, Sally Thompson and a grandson, Rolf Thompson also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Rev. James McBride of Blair; a daughter, DeNee Hansen of Bottineau, North Dakota; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Her family members served as casketbearers.

Joan Larson was organist.

Memorial may be directed to the Kenmare Memorial Hospital, in care of Ella Gutzke.

Thompson-Larson Funeral Home of Kenmare was in charge of arrangements for the services.
