Helen D. Pfeiffer, 90

Helen D. Pfeiffer, 90 of Blair died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Crowell Home in Blair. Services are pending with Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Helen D. Pfeiffer, daughter of Edward W. and Dora (Struve) Pfeiffer, was born Dec. 8, 1923, at Fort Calhoun.

A lifelong resident of Washington County, she graduated from Blair High School and briefly attended Dana College.

She was employed by the Washington County Rationing Board during World War II.

In her work at the Washington County Extension Office, she was devoted to the 4-H Club members and their families and made every effort to assist them in their projects.

She was a longtime employee of the Fort Calhoun Stone Company, whose president described her as a “Company man.” The business, its owners and employees were beloved by her.

Although no longer young in her years, she was a mainstay of her brother, Henry’s, farmers market endeavors.

The linchpin of her family, she embodied the virtues of “Sacrifice, thrift, courage and duty” often ascribed to those of her generation.

She is survived by her sister, Louise; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brothers: William, John and Henry.
