Jeffrey L. Snyder, 61, Missouri Valley, Iowa, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at his home in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 14, at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Weeping Water. Military honors were conducted by Julius F. Muller American Legion Post 337 of Missouri Valley.

Jeffrey L. Snyder was born March 16, 1952, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to George and Faye (McManamie) Snyder. He went to Missouri Valley High School and attended Bellevue University in Bellevue. Jeff lived in the Missouri Valley area for most of his life except for three years he spent in the U.S. Marine Corps and another three years when he lived in Nebraska.

Most of his working career was spent with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Central Payroll Office. After retirement from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1997, he worked for the Missouri Valley Times-News as an advertising representative for three years. He spent about five years as the manager of the Rand Community Senior Center.

Eventually, he became the Missouri Valley Chamber of Commerce’s executive director for six-and-a-half years until his retirement and was on the Board of Directors for the Wisecup Farm Museum. He was an active supporter for the local Fraternal Order of Eagles.

His latest passion for the past 12 years was working with the Harrison County Fair Board. After his retirement as executive director of the Missouri Valley Chamber of Commerce in June 2011, he began traveling.

He loved rock ‘n’ roll music, cooking, fishing, traveling and going to movies and live-theater performances.

He married Doris Stillwell in 1997. She died June 5, 2010.

He is survived by his children, Laura Kittrell and Shon Snyder, both of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; father George Snyder of Blair; sisters: Kimberly K. Sell of Modale, Iowa, and Lisa D. Hansen and husband Robert of Atlantic, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Faye; wife Doris; and one niece.

Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley was in charge of arrangements.
