Wendell E. Asp, 60, of Blair died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Hospice House in Omaha.

A Memorial gathering will be Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Blair Central Court Hall from 4 to 10 p.m.

Wendell Earl Asp was born July 5, 1953, in Clay Center, Kan., to Wendell C. and Kathryne H. (Morton) Asp.

He lived in the Beloit, Kan. area until his graduation from Vo-Tech.

After graduation, he and his best friend, Ed Belles, moved to Omaha.

He was employed with Fruehauf and later NECO.

Shortly after moving to Omaha, he met Connie M. VanBeek of Blair. The couple was united in marriage Oct. 27, 1973, in Orum. To this union, their daughters, Heather and Tinna, were born.

The couple lived in Omaha for a couple of years after the wedding, and then several other places, before making their home in Blair.

He was known for his talent as a welder and was always sought after for his skills. In his spare time, he enjoyed making metal artwork for people.

He is survived by his wife, Connie, of Blair; daughters Heather Asp and Tinna Asp of Blair; mother Kathryne Asp of Hayward, Wis.; brother Kenny (Cheryl) Wallace of Broken Bow; sisters Beth Moore of Lexington and Micky Mays of Hayward, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his father Wendell C. Asp.
