Injuries to D. Schroeder Prove Fatal

12-Year-Old Blair Youth Died on Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was a time of sadness in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schroeder of Blair. Their son, Dan, aged 12, died that evening of injuries sustained when struck by a light truck earlier in the day.

Dan had darted out from behind a bread truck which was going out of the lane at his farm home a mile southeast of Blair on Highway 73. He had visited with the truck driver and followed the truck out to the highway which he would cross to go to some feed lots on the opposite side of the road.

Dan failed to note the oncoming pickup driven by Frank Smith, of Herman. Smith was unable to see Dan because he had been walking on the opposite side of the bread truck.

Laurets Rasmussen, who was also driving along the highway, saw Dan just before the impact. He stopped his car, carefully laid the injured lad in his car and rushed to Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. There he was given preliminary care and rushed to an Omaha hospital which could better handle his injuries.

Daniel Tom Schroeder was born October 16, 1950 at Blair. He attended the Blair Schools and was a Junior High pupil.

He is survived by eight brothers and sisters: Diane, David, Donny, Denise, Bobby, Ronnie, Debbie and Mary. His parents and his grandmother, Mrs. John Bartholomew, of Omaha, also survive.

Funeral services were held this morning at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and burial was made in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Pallbearers, all uncles of Dan, were Leo Ray and Tom Matya, Emilio Rindone, Don Clifford, all of Omaha, and Rudy Fuhrman of Blair.

The Campbell Mortuary was in charge of the services.p> ~~~ Obituary courtesy of the Washington County Genealogical Society. Newspaper clippings on file in the Blair, Nebraska library.~~~
