Walter W. Petersen, 92

Services for Walter Petersen, age 92 of Blair, who died May 5, 1994 at Memorial Community Hospital were Monday, May 9 at First United Methodist Church, with burial in the Blair Cemetery.

Walter W. Petersen was born November 29, 1901 on a farm six miles west of Blair to Hans and Marie Broderson Petersen. He attended school in Blair and also the Gaydou School of Business.

He married Golda Smith March 31, 1921 in Omaha. She preceded him in death on April 16, 1983.

He started his employment with the Vinton Motor Company in 1929 and retired in 1982.

He was past president of the Blair Chamber of Commerce, member of the Blair Fire Department, member of the Blair Lions Club, served on the Blair Housing Authority Board and was finance chairman for the Blair United Methodist Church Building Fund.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and seven brothers and sisters.

He is survived in death by three daughters and sons-in-law, Madge and Lewis Smith, Omaha, Nebraska; Jody and Augie Stricker, Fergus Falls, Minnesota and Gay and Dale Crandell, Grand Island, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Nicki Tiedtke, Cindy Grasmick, Julie Welle, Alan Stricker, Emily Kretchman, Diana Hast, Tood Crandell and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to either the Blair Rescue Squad, or First United Methodist Church. Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
