VIOLA H. CARLSEN, 86

Viola H. Carlsen, 86, of Blair died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at her home in Blair. Services were Tuesday, Feb. 2, at the First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Viola H. Carlsen was born April 19, 1912, in Blair to Hans J. and Karen (Jensen) Hansen. She graduated from Blair High School in 1930. She also graduated from Dana College with a degree in elementary education and music.

On Aug. 4, 1936, she married Viggo Carlsen in Blair. The couple lived in several towns in Nebraska and in Mapleton, Iowa, where Mr. Carlsen taught school.

The couple moved to Omaha in 1952, where she taught elementary education for 25 years, until her retirement in 1978. In 1989, they moved to Blair and resided in Johansen Manor.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church and Monday Afternoon Club.

She is survived by her husband, Viggo; son and daughter-in-law, David and Lois Carlsen of Blair; two daughters, Ellen Ellick of St. Louis, Mo., and Norma Glodas of Auburn, Mass.; four grandchildren and spouses, Janet and Charles Campbell of Scottsdale, Ariz., Barbara Carlsen of Omaha, Douglas Carlsen of Alburquerque, N.M., and Jason and Genevieve Fridley of North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church or Good Shepherd Home.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
