GEORGE G. CARMICHAEL, 80

Services were Sat., Sept. 21 at first Lutheran Church in Blair for George G. Carmichael of Blair, who died at Crowell Memorial Home Sept. 18, 1996. Burial was in Blair Cemetery.

George G. Carmichael was born in Blair May 11, 1916 to Charles G. and Hannah Kronberg Carmichael. He attended First Christian Church in Blair and was baptized in that church.

He graduated from Blair High School in 1934. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1945.

In 1950, he and a partner, Harry Walker, opened Blair Supply Company (now Art’s Auto). In 1963, after Walker’s retirement, Blair Supply Company became a family business with George’s sons, Terry, and later Keith, joining the business. Carmichael retired in 1984 after being in business 34 years.

He married Mardell Hansen Aug. 7, 1935. After his marriage he became a member of the Danish Lutheran Church and was a member of First Lutheran Church at his death.

He was a Mason and Shriner for many years. He was the first president of the Mo Ri Shrine Club in Blair. He was also a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Yvonne French; two sons, Terry Carmichael and Keith Carmichael and a brother, Harold Carmichael.

He is survived by his wife, Mardell; grandchildren, Michael French and Steven French, Arlington; Todd Carmichael, Omaha; Troy Carmichael, Blair; Trent Carmichael, Arlington, Wash.; Lynn Carmichael, St. Louis, Mo. and Kent Carmichael and Jana Carmichael, both of Blair; great-grandchildren, Kristin, Lance, Whitney, Logan, Tasha and Tiffany; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Carmichael, Blair and a brother, Orval Carmichael Cole, Omaha.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
