We were pained to learn of the death of our pioneer friend, Patrick McCarty, who came to where South Omaha now is in 1854 and lived, when we came here, on a farm on Deer creek and afterwards on a farm near the Higgins place before going to Omaha. Pat had many friends who felt disappointed when he was defeated for sheriff of Washington county at one time. Pat and us were friends ever since we came to Ft. Calhoun.
