Lyle A. McClain, 81

Lyle A. McClain, 81, of Kennard, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 12, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard. Interment was in the Kennard Cemetery.

Lyle Arthur McClain was born July 31, 1924, at Walthill to Charles Seward and Grace Luella (Barber) McClain. He attended school at Macy.

On May 6, 1944, he married Dorothy Campbell at Pender.

He entered the Army in August of 1944 and served with the 305th Regiment, 77 Infantry Division until he was discharged in October 1946. He served in Okinawa and Cebu Island.

Upon his return from the military, he and his wife farmed in Winnebago and Macy before moving to Omaha, where Mr. McClain went to work for Wonder Bread and then Kitty Clover, where he worked for 17 years.

After the couple moved to Blair, they started a cleaning business, which they operated for 17 years until they both retired. They moved to Kennard in 1975.

He is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; and his family will remember him for his beautiful yard and flowers.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Penny Graham of Lincoln; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister-in-law, James and Donna McClain of Walthill and Gilbert McClain of North Sioux City, S. D.; sister-in-law, Emma McClain of Gordon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
