Ed Schroeder, 76

Edward Wendell Schroeder, 76, of Dubuque and McGregor, Iowa, died February 1, 1988, at Maui Memorial Hospital, Hawaii.

Mr. Schroeder was born November 17, 1911, in Dubuque to Professor Edward and Loretta Schroeder.

He attended the Schroeder Violin Conservatory and the Dubuque Conservatory of Music.

Mr. Schroeder graduated from Loras College in 1934, and earned his master’s degree in music from the University of Iowa.

He was personal secretary to the late Archbishop Francis Beckman and conducted the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, which his father founded in 1911.

Mr. Schroeder was a pianist, organist, lyricist and composer. His works include a comic operetta, “The Rock Pile”, and opera, “The Tragic Queen”, and many religious and patriotic pieces. He was also well-known in the Blair area.

Survivors include his wife Marie, two sons, Franz Michael of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Lt. Col. Clifton P. of Denver, one grandson and four brothers.
