Former Washington County resident Rhonda R. Schroeder, 46, of Fremont, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at her home surrounded by her family. She had battled breast cancer for more than five years.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at First United Methodist Church in Fremont. Interment will be in the Kennard Cemetery. Closed casket visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. The visitation continues at the church one hour prior to service.

Rhonda Renee Hineline was born Feb. 28, 1961, in Blair to Ronald and Janet (Rosenbaum) Hineline. She attended elementary schools in Kennard, Phoenix, Ariz., Blair and Arlington. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1979 and from the University of Nebraska in 1983.

She married Jay F. Schroeder Oct. 1, 1983, at First United Methodist Church in Blair.

After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Mrs. Schroeder worked for FmHA in Norfolk and then became an agricultural loan officer for First Nebraska Bank until 1987. Then she accepted a position with the First National Bank of Fremont and worked there until 1992. She decided to change her career path, went back to school and received a radiation technologist degree in 1995 from Clarkson College. She worked in West Point and Blair before accepting a position at the Fremont Area Medical Center in 1997. She continued in that position until 1996. FAMC coworkers organized a benefit in her honor Nov. 4, 2006. Words cannot adequately describe the gratitude felt by her and her family at this enormous outpouring of love and support from friends, family and even strangers. It was an amazing experience and is forever cherished by her family.

Mrs. Schroeder was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fremont. During her 20-year membership she served in numerous roles including Sunday School teacher and member of the Finance and Pastor Parish committees. She was also involved in Bible Study Fellowship. This past summer she coordinated the Pie Parlor and Chuck Wagon Grill. She was active with Dodge County 4-H, Bunko Ladies and Social Sorority. She passionately pursued many hobbies including pets, bowling stamping, card making, scrapbooking, painting, sewing, gardening and travel. The many recipients of her hand-crafted cards were continually amazed by the creativity and thoughtfulness, even as she struggled in the final weeks.

Mrs. Schroeder’s favorite adage was, “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the number of moments that take our breath away.” Consequently, she always cherished time spent with her family and friends. Although her fight against cancer was long and difficult, she never used that as an excuse not to send a card, make a caring telephone call or take on another project. Her courage and spirit serve as a continuing inspiration to many. Indeed, she made a positive difference in the lives of countless people.

She is survived by her husband, Jay; three daughters, Hannah Elizabeth, Kalli Rose and Paige Caroline; her parents, Ronald and Lori Hineline of Blair; sisters and brothers-in-law, Tammy and Don Fibich of Gretna, Stacy and Tim Castens of Phoenix, Ariz., and Tina and Bill Engel of Valley; a brother, Ronnie Hineline of Omaha and his fiancée Ashley King; grandmother Arlene Rosenbaum of Blair and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Janet (Rosenbaum) Hineline, who was killed by a drunk driver on Dec. 23, 1976, and her grandparents, Roy Rosenbaum, Ralph Hineline and Frances Hineline.
