MRS. N. C. CARLSEN RITES ARE TODAY

Services for Mrs. N.C. Carlsen are being held today at First Lutheran Church. Mrs. Carlsen, a resident of Blair for over 30 years, died suddenly early Tuesday morning, January 9th, when she was returning home from visits with some of her children.

Mrs. Carlsen, mother of a prominent family of sons and daughters, and widow of the late Rev. N.C. Carlsen, who was at one time President of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, had hundreds of friends and acquaintances in this area.

Mrs. Carlsen was born Martha Caroine Neve at Taars, Denmark, on February 22, 1883. She was baptized in the parish church there and while still an infant, was brought with her family to this country, first to Chicago and then to Ringsted, Iowa, where she grew to maturity. She was 78 years, 10 months of age.

She was united in marriage to the Rev. N. C. Carlsen June 15, 1910. They made their home in Superior, Wisconsin; Milltown, Wisconsin; Royal, Iowa; and Blair. Dr. Carlsen preceded her in death on February 6, 1950.

She is survived by the following brothers and sisters: The Reverend A. V. Neve of Blair; Mr. George Neve of Ringsted, Ia.; Mrs. C. A. Vammen of Oaks, Oklahoma; Mrs. A. N. Andersen of Swea City, Iowa; and Mrs. Hildor Samuelson of Des Moines, Iowa.

Surviving children are Alvin of Shenandoah, Iowa; the Reverend Verner of Whittier, Cal.; Esther (Mrs. Thorvald Hansen) of Racine, Wis.; Rhoda (Mrs. Elmer Holl) of Spokane, Wash.; Lois (Mrs. Harold Sorensen) of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; the Reverend Stanley of Mason City, Iowa; Eunice (Mrs. Homer Larsen) of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Niels, Jr. of Altadena, California. Twenty-eight grandchildren, a host of other relatives, and countless friends also survive.

Services are being conducted by the Rev. George Palleson of First Lutheran Church. Burial, under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home is to be made in the Blair Cemetery.

Pallbearers for Mrs. N. C. Carlsen whose funeral was held Thursday afternoon, were Martinus Hansen, Marius Hansen, Lloyd Hedlund, Roger Stricklett, Lee Daggett and Ingvard Skobo.
