OLD SETTLER CALLED

Mrs. Hemming Peterson, an old settler of this county, passed away at her home near Rose Hill on August 10, 1928 at the age of seventy-seven years, nine months and thirteen days.

Deceased was born October 28, 1850 at Sonderly Moen, Denmark. She was confirmed and baptized in the Lutheran faith in the town of her birth. She was married to Hemming Petersen on November 6, 1874 and the following spring they emigrated to America and to this vicinity.

In 1882 they moved to the farm where they lived for forty-six years and where death finally took her, thus ending a companionship that had been on of pleasure and happiness.

In 1924 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and it was a happy event with the children, the grandchildren and other relatives gathered about the board and living over the old past both in the old county and in America.

Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Peterson, Kristina Christiansen, who died six years ago; Peter X. Petersen of Lyons, Neb; Jens L. Petersen of Blair; Mrs. Fred Anderson of Herman; Lars P. Peterson of Blair; Mrs. George Broderson, of Fremont; Mrs. Albert Peterson, of Blair, and Mrs. Shirley Peterson of Blair; also twenty two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren came to be a comfort in their age.

As a wife and mother she lived a life of busy, cheerful activities and faithful to the discharge of her duties and in her community and home she was known for her high Christian character.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Rose Hill church at two o’clock with Rev. Norland of Herman officiating and interment was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.

Thus ended a life well spent and with a record of good deeds to her credit well worthy of note and a life so spent that it was well worthy of emulation.
