Ronald Lee Hagen, 83, of Blair, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair with his son and youngest daughter at his side.

A celebration of his life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Country Bible Church. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the church.

Ronald Lee Hagen was born June 24, 1930, in Rugby, N.D. to Victor and Evelyn (Anderson) Hagen and was the oldest of four children.

He attended school until the eighth grade when he went to work to help support his family. His early jobs were working as a pinsetter in a bowling alley and also staying at his Grandpa Anderson’s grain elevator and helping during harvesting.

As a young man, he was a taxi driver before he became a carpenter (his father’s occupation).

On April 10, 1950, he married Cora Haugen of Williston, N.D.

In the 1950s, he started Quality Construction Co. in Williston to provide for his growing family. The couple worked hard to make this company successful and built many homes, churches, schools and commercial buildings in North Dakota and Montana.

Many family memories were made riding in the Hagen powerboat. Mr. Hagen was a self-taught water-skier and told the story of water-skiing while smoking a cigar. The children became water-skiers as well, sans cigar.

When business slowed, Ron moved his family to Loveland, Colo., in 1969, where the couple owned and managed Gateway Liquor and started a new construction company, Building Specialists.

In 1975, with their two oldest children married and their third child in college, the couple moved to Imperial where he built homes.

His younger brother, Wayne, worked with him at Quality Construction in Williston and his son, Douglas, worked with him in construction in Williston, Loveland and Imperial.

In 1978, he bought a Eureka log home franchise, and built a log house in Lakeland Estates, south of Blair.

Ron loved to drive and in 1980, he was ready for a new challenge. He fulfilled a lifelong dream to obtain his CDL and become a long-haul truck driver. He eventually bought his own truck and hauled freight in the lower 48. His grandchildren enjoyed helping him wash his truck, and on special occasions, they were able to camp out in the sleeper of the truck.

In the early 90s, he was baptized and joined his wife in membership at Country Bible Church in Blair.

When he retired, he enjoyed various projects around the house and yard, adding decorations to his deck and feeding the birds. In this past year, Ron was able to continue living in his home thanks to the hard work of his daughter, Lynn.

He is survived by his sister, Mavis (Brian) Smith; children, Sandra (Al) Solberg; Douglas Hagen and fiancée, Ann McHugh; Karyn Hagen; Lynn (Dave) Scheibe; grandchildren, Eryn (Dale) Adkins; Larissa (Beau) Theige; Lydia (Hugh) Geary; Lauren (Conor) Kline; Carl Hagen; Christopher Hagen; Claire Hagen; Grace Anne Hagen; Lizabeth Doicin; Sara Scheibe; Christina (Michael) Hurlburt; Emmalee Scheibe; and too many great-grandchildren to count.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora; brother, Wayne Hagen; sister Audrey Kvande; son-in-law, Chris Warman; and his great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hurlburt.

Memorials may be directed to the family or Country Bible Church.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.
