Gerald E. Row, 72, of Fremont, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at the Fremont Area Medical Center.

Visitation is one hour prior to service. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 at First Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Revs. Mark Grorud and Paul Erdal will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

Gerald E. “Jerry” Row was born July 27, 1927, to James and Sallie (Frock) Row in Hooper. He grew up in Hooper and moved to Fremont in 1941, and was a graduate of Fremont High School. He was employed at the former Palace Ice Cream Parlor and at the former O.P. Skaggs Grocery Store, both in Fremont. He also worked at Hormel Foods Corporation in Fremont for 34 years, retiring in 1983 as cafeteria manager.

After retirement, he worked part-time in the meat and floral department at HyVee in Fremont.

On March 22, 1949, he married Ardyce Lierman in Fremont.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont; the Fraternal Order of Eagles #200 of Fremont; and the Fremont Evening Gardeners Club. He was also a past city councilman from 1968 to 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Ardyce; two sons, Dennis and Mark Row, both of Fremont; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lynette and David Vyhlidal of Elkhorn, Kathy and Larry Oerman of Nickerson and Lori and Michael Scheer of Fremont; a brother-in-law, Raymond Lee of Waterloo, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Duane; a brother, Forrest Row; and two sisters, Marjorie Lee and Elsie Row.

Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church in Fremont, the Fremont Area Medical Center ICU Unit or the American Cancer Society.

Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont is charge of arrangements.
