Services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington, on February 4 for John Royuk, 71, who died February 1, 1989 at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County in Fremont. The Rev. Dennis Maaske officiated. Burial was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

John Royuk was born December 22, 1917 at Arlington. He was raised by Ewi and Alma Kruger after the death of his mother. He grew up north of Arlington and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School.

He farmed north of Arlington until moving to Arlington in 1963. He owned and operated Ob’s Rental & Repair until retiring in 1978. A master mechanic, he had worked for Ruwe Equipment, Mahnke Implement, Fremont Farmers Union, Mohr Equipment Co. and had operated John’s Parkway Truck Stop.

He married Esther Hoffman June 16, 1940 at Cedar Bluffs.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lutheran Laymen’s League and the Voter’s Assembly. He sang in the church choir for 25 years, served as superintendent of St. Paul’s Cemetery and assisted at Reckmeyer Funeral Home for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Esther; sons, Ronald of Knoxville, Tennessee and Norman R. “Dick” of North Bend; daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Beverly) Greunke of Arlington and Mrs. Paul (Linda) Staros of Columbia, Maryland; Alma Kruger of Arlington; and a sister, Mrs. Edwin (Mary) Juedes of Arlington. Eleven grandchildren and two great-grandsons also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxim and Warvara Horponek Royuk; brothers, Henry and Paul, and a sister, Olga.

Debra Gobrogge was organist. Pallbearers were Michael, Brent, Brad, Wayne, Bill and Rodney Royuk; Brian Greunke; Julian Staros and Chris Koger.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Concordia Teachers College at Seward or St. Peters Lutheran Church Building Fund at North Bend.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
