Merritt McClellan, 86

Services were held Saturday, December 2, at the First United Methodist Church in Rolla, Missouri for Merritt Charles McClellan, 86, formerly of Arlington who died recently in Laguna Hills, California after an extended illness. Burial was at the Rolla City Cemetery.

Merritt Charles McClellan was born in Salem, Indiana in 1903. He graduated as a civil engineer from the University of Nebraska and worked for the United State Geological Survey for 41 years.

From 1927 through the 1940’s he surveyed and mapped throughout the United States, beginning in Tucumcari, New Mexico, including the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, Breckenridge and Hoosier Pass in Colorado, the Sandia Mountains in New Mexico, areas in Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida and the Ozark Mountains in Missouri. He eventually served the U.S.G.S. as the head of the Plans and Production Section of the Central Region in Rolla, Missouri.

He was a life-long member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Glover McClellan, Laguna Hills, California; a daughter, Mary Graves, Alexandria, Indiana; a sister, Rachel Unland, Lincoln, Nebraska; a step-daughter, Leatrice Lily, Escondido, California; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Laguna Hills, California or of Rolla, Missouri.
