Services Held For Earle McConnaha, 93

Funeral services were held Monday, February 5, at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah for Earle F. McConnaha. McConnaha died February 1 in Blair.

Rev. Gail Twining and Rev. Orval Roach officiated the rites.

Pallbearers were Wendell McConnaha, Michael Belton, Byron Bergman, Ted Von Seggern, Lester Curley and Vernon Hovendick.

Concluding services were at Tekamah Cemetery.

Earle Foster McConnaha was born June 11, 1885, on a farm in Cass County, Nebr., near Murray to John and Mary Latta McConnaha. At an early age he moved with his parents to a farm near Herman. He was a 1902 graduate of Blair High School.

The family moved to New Bloomfield, Mo., in 1904 where he became engaged in farming until 1910. At this time he entered William Jewell College.

McConnaha married Sarah Virginia Powell at New Bloomfield on September 22, 1915.

He served in World War I as First Lt. Chaplain in the 3rd Battalion of the 117th Infantry of the 30th Division.

McConnaha attended various colleges and seminaries throughout the states, including Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Washington University.

He also served as pastor for many churches throughout Kentucky. He was elected Professor of Religious Education at Shorter College in Rome, Ga., and in 1924 became Professor of Religious Education at Mississippi Women’s College at Hattiesburg.

He was affiliated with the U.S. Cartridge Company as an inspector during World War II and later with the U.S. Corps of Engineers. Still later he worked with the Engineer Supply Control office in St. Louis, Mo. He retired from there in 1958 at the age of 73.

McConnaha returned to Nebraska in 1964. He was a resident of the Tekamah Senior Citizens Home for five years, at which time he moved to Crowell Home in Blair and resided there until his death.

McConnaha was preceded in death by his wife in 1961.

He is survived by nephews and nieces Mark McConnaha of Blair; Mrs. Margaret Ball of Pender; Mrs. Beulah Gleet of Denver, Colo.; Ray McConnaha of Tekamah; Richard McConnaha of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; Robert McConnaha of Ontario, Ore.; Raleigh Barker of Gordon; Clark McConnaha of Valier, Mont.; Mrs. Enid Hill of Clarinda, Ia., and Mrs. Raymond Hitchcock of Spencer, Ia.
