Charles McCormick’s Death

The death of the young and agreeable Chas. McCormick, of Fort Calhoun, on last Monday afternoon came upon the people in great surprise.

He settled there only last August, but had made so much progress in the great undertaking in hand, that he people of Calhoun and Blair had all made up their minds to his personal presence and residence in the county for years to come. He was worth probably $10,000, and had made a fine selection of grounds, erected barns, bought his fine horses, some fifty in number, and had just assisted in putting on foot an effort to revive the agricultural society of this county, in order to combine with it a driving park for the exhibition, especially, of fine horses and speed. Where we meet this afternoon, at the hour and on the day named by him, we will surely miss him. The society thus early loses this young, pleasant and energetic gentleman. Peace be to his remains, and the consolations of a holy religion to the support of his mourning friends.

Charles McCormick, one of our most enterprising citizens, departed from this world on last Monday afternoon, Feb. 3, 1890. Mr. McCormick was 28 years old, unmarried, but leaves a young brother in Calhoun to mourn his loss. He had just moved here last fall, and was doing much for the benefit of the town and country. His remains were taken to Omaha for burial.
