Helmut A. Schrum, 72

Helmut A. Schrum, 72, of rural Blair, died Jan. 30, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffman-Dworak-Cutler Funeral Chapel, 7805 W. Center Road, Omaha.

Helmut A. Schrum was born Oct. 22, 1928 in Omaha to Claus Wilhelm and Dora (Jurgensen) Schrum. He graduated from Underwood High School in Omaha in 1945. He served for several years in the Nebraska National Guard.

On Oct. 22, 1955, he married Irma Fouraker at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millard.

Mr. Schrum worked for Omaha Public Power District in Omaha for 42 years. When he retired in 1988, he was supervisor of central maintenance.

After his retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Schrum moved to Battle Lake, Minn. He was a member of the Battle Lake Lions Club and the Ottertail Rod and Gun Club.

In July, 1998, the couple moved to rural Blair.

He is survived by his wife, Irma, daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Paul Fortina of Blair, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lynn and Cindy Schrum of Omaha and John Schrum of San Rafael, Calif., three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Sam Goldapp of Central City, and brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Carrie Schrum of Alliance, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the Kennard Rescue Squad. Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
