#1 Marjorie E. (Gehrk) Matzen, 83, Blair, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard. Mrs. Matzen's body has been donated to scientific studies at UNMC.

Marjorie Ellen Matzen was born March 30, 1922, in Kennard to Henry and Hilda (Lund) Gehrk.

On May 5, 1946, she married George Emil Matzen at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard.

Mrs. Matzen worked several different jobs and also had a tall fashions shop in Omaha. She decided to become a teacher and graduated from Dana College with her B.S. in education in 1965. She later completed her Master's of education degree at the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Her first teaching job was in elementary education at the Plainview country school near Fort Calhoun. She, then taught at Waterloo, Bennington, Blair and Omaha, eventually changing her teaching area to special education. She retired from the Arlington Public School system in 1987. Many children, over the years, have benefited from her dedication to teaching. After her retirement she stayed active in her church and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a wonderul mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, George and Chrissy Matzen of Milford, Gerald "Jake" Matzen and Sheri Matzen of Blair and James and Donna Matzen of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law, Maren and William Jorgensen of Blair; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson; and a sister-in-law, Marian Gehrk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, and a brother, Harvey.
