Obituary

Martin V. McCormick was born in Columbeana county, Ohio, April 11th, 1840, and deceased July 27th, 1893, consequently was 53 years, three months and 16 days old at the time of his death.

He was married September 16th, 1862, to Nancy Wright, to whom was born four children, two boys and two girls, only two of whom, a boy and a girl are now living. Before coming to this state Brother and Sister McCormick were members of the Presbyterian church. About nineteen years ago he and his wife united with the Christian church under the preaching of Elder R. C. Barrow and helped to constitute the first Christina church in the North Platte country, the place of meeting being the Sutherland school house in this, Washington county. Brother McCormick served the church of which he was a member first as Deacon and afterward as Elder, filling both places acceptably to his brethren.

He was a good citizen, a devoted husband and a kind parent and lived a consistent Christian life. He never was strong after his fourteenth year. About a year ago he received a severe sunstroke form which he never recovered. From this time till his death his suffering was great and his life exceedingly sad. He leaves a wife and two children besides a host of friends to mourn his loss.
