Walter McCracken, Native of County, Dies At Nearly 71 Years

Services Being Held Today

Walter McCracken, eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jake McCracken, died Saturday evening at 10:45 from a heart ailment. He was in Blair the day previous attending to his business but on Friday night at about midnight he took suddenly ill and as at once taken to the Blair hospital where he died Saturday evening. He had long been afflicted with heart trouble and when the end came it was not altogether unexpected.

Deceased was born in this county in the same vicinity where he had spent his entire life. He was first married to Miss Mary Platz, a sister of Mrs. Henry Christensen. The ceremony took place on September 16, 1891 and they at once started farming on the same farm which he occupied for forty-nine years.

To this union four children were born all of whom are living, Harold of Long Beach, California; Mrs. Ruth Christensen, of Genoa, Nebraska; Mrs. Dorothy Butterfield and Mrs. Lucille Heath, both of Miami, Florida.

The first wife died in 1914. He was remarried in April of 1917 to Miss Anna O’Brien, also of the same vicinity. Besides the wife and four children he leaves two brothers, John of Blair and Hugh of Omaha and one sister, Mrs. Minnie Milroy of Omaha, all of whom mourn deeply his passing.

Funeral services are being held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Methodist church with Rev. Ralph P. Rasmussen officiating and interment is to be made in the Blair cemetery.
