Mrs. Bert Faltys Dies Suddenly Saturday Evening

Mrs. Betty Faltys, wife of L. G. (Bert) Faltys of 2243 Nebraska Street, died suddenly at her home Saturday evening, March 25th. Mrs. Faltys had not been feeling well for several days and had been under her doctor’s care for what appeared to be a mild case of intestinal flu. Death came about 10 o’clock Saturday evening as she was dozing in her favorite chair in the living room of her home.

Mr. and Mrs. Faltys were just emerging from a very trying 18 month period following a fall of Mr. Faltys which resulted in a broken hip. He spent many months in hospitals in the east where the accident happened while on a vacation trip, in Omaha and at Blair, and he had just reached the place where it appeared they could look forward to better health. Through it all Betty had cared for Bert faithfully, spending many hours patiently giving him comforting care.

Elizabeth Betty Hopewell was born in Tekamah but moved to Blair with her parents when she was a child. She was born April 15, 1903, and would have been 75 years of age in less than three weeks. She was a woman of many talents and with much ability.

As a young woman she taught school both in Blair and in Fremont and she was regarded as an outstanding capable teacher. After retiring from teaching, she turned her efforts to hobbies of various sorts, exhibits of which may be seen in many places throughout her home.

She developed an interest in knitting and she became quite skilled at hand painting of china. She became a collector of items, including antique furniture and accumulated many collections of interesting and unusual items. She possessed an extremely fine collection of Madonnas, the collection having been shown at a number of places where it was acclaimed to be exceptional and unusual.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Monday Afternoon Club, the Nikumi Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Blair Genealogy Club and was a past member of the Harmony Extension Club. She was an active member of the Congregational Church and the Women’s Fellowship. She is survived by her husband, Bert, and by a son, John Faltys, and three grandchildren, of Seattle, Washington, and by a brother, Bob Hopewell of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be held at the Congregational Church Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. John Fritzmeier conducting the service. The Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Following the service, the body will be taken to Forest Lawn crematory in Omaha for cremation.
