Farrel G. Rutan, 68, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at his home in Arlington.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 5, at the Arlington V.F.W. Club.

Farrel G. Rutan was born Dec. 13, 1937, In Chamberlain, S.D., to William and Helen (Gangard) Rutan Sr.

He grew up in Igloo, Custer and Rapid City, S.D. and moved to Chula Vista, Calif., in 1957, where he was employed at Rohr Industries, which later became Goodrich Industries, until retiring in 1992. He returned to the Black Hills of South Dakota before moving to Arlington in 2001.

He served in South Dakota National Guard from 1954 until 1957.

On Sept 13, 1958 he married Audrey Reese in Chula Vista, Calif.

He was a member of the Arlington Community Church and the Pioneers Club Sunday School. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill and Meg Rutan and Farrel “Skip” Rutan, all of Arlington, and Alan Rutan of Rapid City, S.D.; three daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Rutan of Arlington, Cherie Rutan of Fremont, and Debbie and Ray Gauss of Menasha, Wis; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, William Rutan Jr. of Rapid City; half-brothers, Bob Ruby of Rapid City and Jim Ruby of Washington; step-brother, Mick Ruby of Iowa; sister, Dot Young of Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Darlene Johnson.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
