At her home in Herman Saturday, December 21st, 1901, Mrs. Madura Rutlege, wife of Wm. Rutledge, age 54 years, 5 months. Madura Swaney was born July 22, 1847 in Van Burean, Iowa, the third of eight children. In April 1870, she was married to Wm. Rutledge and came to Nebraska where they have since made their home. She leaves five sons, all of whom were at the funeral. Two of her brothers and one sister, from Chicago, were present. The funeral was held in the Baptist Church Monday afternoon, December 23rd, conducted by Rev. Smith.

Mrs. Wm. Rutledge died at her home in Herman last Saturday at the age of 54 years and 5 months. Rev. George Smith conducted the funeral service at the Baptist church on Monday afternoon and interment was made in the Herman cemetery. Medora Swaney was born in Van Buren, Ia., July 22, 1847, and was married to Wm. Rutledge in April 1870. Soon after they came to this state and have made their home in and about Herman ever since.
