Roy Rutledge, 96, of Oakland, Nebr. died Sunday, April 6, 1997 at the Oakland, Nebraska, Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Palmquist-Pelan Mortuary in Oakland.

Rutledge was born Nov. 13, 1900 in Herman to David and Catherine (Cooper) Rutledge. He attended school in Herman. He farmed near Herman until 1941 and then farmed east of Oakland until 1943. He worked a stationary engineer at the Mead Ordinance Plant, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Tip Top and Oakland Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1979. He also owned the Hilltop Café in Oakland for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Herman.

On Dec. 18, 1924, he married Josie Miller at Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Survivors are his wife, Josie of Oakland; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Jay Rennerfeldt of Papillion, Nebr.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Everett and Virginia Rutledge of Plainview, Nebr. and David and Carol Rutledge of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Mary Holt of Kearney, Nebr.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Kathleen Rutledge of Payson, Ariz. and Dr. David and Marian Rutledge of Wellsley Hills, Mass; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, two grandchildren and a son-in-law, Charles Holt.

Memorials may be given to the Oakland Heights Nursing Home or to the Oakland Rescue Squad.
