William H. Rutledge, 89, of Tekamah, died Monday morning, January 25, 1988, at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair after a lengthy illness.

Bill was born on June 23, 1898, near Herman to David W. and Catherine (Cooper) Rutledge.

He was untied in marriage to Mildred Morrison on August I. 1922, at Logan, Iowa.

The couple lived in Oakland from 1940 to 1948, at which time they moved near Springfield, where they farmed until moving to Blair after retiring in 1962.

Even after his retirement, Bill continued to work in agricultural related jobs, and in 1976 moved to Tekamah.

Bill was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tekamah, and was formerly a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Rutledge of Tekamah; three daughters; Edith Gustafson of Avoca, Iowa; Barbara Weiss of Omaha, and Willa Schuning of Omaha; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three brothers; Dr. David Ivan Rutledge of Boston, Massachusetts; Roy Rutledge of Oakland and Charles W. Rutledge of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Bethel Denney and Vivian Cohen.

A graveside cremation committal will be held at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 1988, at the Herman Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah. Rev. Marion H. Knoell will officiate at both services. There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are being handled by the Hamel & Peck Funeral Home in Tekamah.
