Dr, Allman J. Ryan died at his home in York, Nebraska, Tuesday, May 13th. The remains were brought to Blair for interment Saturday, May 17th. Dr. Ryan moved from Blair to York nearly twenty-five years ago and has made his home there since. He was born in South Bend, Indiana, in 1852, coming to Blair in 1872 where he was associated in business with Dr. Palmer. He was a graduated of Rush Medical College, Chicago, and took a post graduate course at Bellvue Hospital, New York. In 1880 he was married to Lottie Jackman of Blair. Dr. Ryan was prominent in the affairs of the Masonic order at York and his funeral was in charge of the Blair Masons.

He leaves a wife and four children, three boys and a girl.

Dr. A. J. Ryan, a former resident of Blair, died at his home at York, Neb., on Tuesday the 13th inst. And his body was brought to Blair in charge of a delegation of his brethren of the York Masonic fraternity on Saturday last for interment in the Blair cemetery, where his father and mother are at rest.

Dr, Ryan came to Blair, a young man just graduated from the Rush Medical College, in the early seventies and engaged in practice here, subsequently engaging in the drug business with his uncle, Dr. W. H. Palmer, purchasing the drug stock and business of J. H. Post, the pioneer druggist of Blair. In the meantime he took a post graduate course in medicine and surgery at Bellevue Hospital, in New York City. Later he married Miss Lottie Jackman, whose father and brother were operating the Acme Flouring Mill. He built the house now owned and occupied by Mrs. Lida Selden and lived there several years, removing to York sometime in the eighties where he engaged in the practice of his profession, and conducted a drug store till his death.

The funeral service had been held at York before the body was brought here where the Masonic fraternity of Blair, took charge of the burial service.

Dr. Ryan’s mother was a sister to Dr. W. H. Palmer and Mrs. C. L. Carigan and died several years ago.

Word was received in this city the first of last week of the passing of Dr. Almon J. Ryan at his home in York, Nebr., on Tuesday, May 13.

Almon J. Ryan was born at South Bend, Indiana, Feb. 9, 1852, and died at York, Nebr., May 13, 1913, aged 61 years, 3 months and 4 days.

Dr. Ryan graduated from Rush Medical College, Chicago, in 1876 and practiced medicine in Hooper, Tekamah, and Blair, being a partnership with his uncle, Dr. W. H. Palmer, in this city until 1880 when he went to York and embarked in the drug business and the practice of his profession.

Funeral services were held at his late home in York, the funeral service read by Rev. Lindsey of the Congregational church of that place, and the other service conducted by the Masonic order of which the deceased was a member. The Masons escorted the body to the train, where it was brought to Blair by the family and accompanied by the Master and secretary of the York lodge.

Arriving in Blair the deceased brother was met by the local lodge and taken to the cemetery where he was buried with Masonic rites and honors, Rev. McKieth conducting the religious ceremony.

Dr. Ryan leaves a widow and one grown son, Walter, who with a niece, Mrs. Wilson Kout, of North Platte, and a number of other relatives in the city until Monday when they returned to their respective homes.

The body of Dr. A. J. Ryan was brought here from York, Neb., last Saturday, accompanied by his wife and son, Walter, Mr. and Mrs. John Jackman of Louisville, Neb., Mrs. Wilson Tout, of North Platte, Neb., the Master and Secretary and four pallbearers from the Masonic Lodge, of York. It was met at the train by a delegation from the local lodge and given a Masonic burial in the Blair Cemetery, where his father, mother and baby boy are buried.

Deceased was born in South Bend, Ind., Feb. 7th, 1852, and came to Blair the first time in 1875. He was graduated from Rush Medical College, Chicago in 1876, and practiced at Hooper and Tekamah until ’78, when he located here, going into partnership with his uncle, Dr. W. H. Palmer, in the drug business.

On June 2nd, 1882 he was married to Miss Lottie Jackman at the home of her parents in Louisville, Neb. In 1888 they moved from her to York, where the doctor bought out two drug stores and consolidated them, making his home there since that time.

He suffered from an enlarged liver, with heart and lung complications. He was able to be up on Monday but died very suddenly Tuesday morning of heart failure.

The funeral was held at the house on Friday by Rev. Lindsay, of the Congregational Church. Rev. G. R. McKeith assisted in the burial service here. He is survived by the wife and an only son, Walter, who is a civil engineer by profession and is unmarried.
