George Ryan, 76, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at his home in Blair.

Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 30, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

George Ryan was born Dec. 11, 1929, in Blair to William “Bub” and Dorothy (Jones) Ryan.

His father was killed in a trucking accident when he was two years old. His mother then married Leth Nielsen, and the family moved to a farm west of Fort Calhoun, (now the Pioneers Hills area). He lived and helped on the farm along with his brother and sister. He attended Long Creek School and Blair High School, where he graduated in 1947.

After graduation, he married Bonnie Reed. The couple had one son, Brad.

He later married Beverly Olson, and the couple had three children, William, Margaret and Don. His wife had two children from a previous marriage, George Olson and Nancy Olson.

Mr. Ryan worked for several years around Blair, operating heavy dirt moving equipment. He later worked as an over-the-road truck driver for Navojo. He retired from trucking, and then worked for Kelly Ryan Equipment Company. He became plant superintendent, and retained the job until his retirement.

He was a charter member of the Blair Eagles Club; and was a retired member of the Blair Volunteer Fire and Rescue Departments.

He is survived by his ex-wife Bonnie Moul of Hastings; children, Brad Ryan of Hastings, Willie Ryan, George Olson and Nancy (Olson) McIntosh, all of Blair; Don and Heidi Ryan of Aurora, Mo., and Margaret Ryan of White Bear Lake, Minn.; five grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Marge Nielsen of Blair; and sister Janet (Nielsen) Davis of Honolulu, Hawaii.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly.
