John Schultz was born in east Prussia, Germany, in 1845 and came to this country when he was 16 years of age. He first located in Iowa where he was married to Miss Christina Stephensen in 1873. To this union nine children were born, three of whom died in infancy. The six now living are: Mrs. Anna Klassen, of Orchard, Neb., Mrs. Geo. Wyatt, of Ault, Colo., Henry Schultz and Mrs. Henry Uttermann of this city, John lives near Florence and Mrs. Sam Wright, his youngest daughter, who made her home with him near Kilgore, Neb.

He came to Nebraska about 35 years ago and was one of the early settlers of Washington county, living on a farm near Washington, where he lived until recently, when he went west and took up a homestead near Kilgore, Cherry county, Nebr., where he died at the age of 69 years and 10 months. The remains were sent to Washington, where the funeral was held from the Methodist church last Wednesday and interment made in the German cemetery beside his wife who died twelve years ago.
