Former Blair Pastor Schultz Died at 103

Pastor Anton Theodor Schultz, the oldest living clergyman in the American Lutheran Church, passed away at the Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on December 16, 1977.

He was born on the Island of Funen, Denmark, April 19, 1874.

Coming to the United States as a young man, he became a pastor in the United Danish Lutheran Church, and served First Lutheran Church in Blair in two pastorates, 1906 to 1910, and 1917 to 1921.

Pastor Schultz was married to Ingeborg, the daughter of Pastor Kristian Anker. Pastor Anker was for six years the president of Dana College, and for many years a pastor and educator at Elk Horn, Iowa. Mrs. Schultz passed away in 1969 at the age of 91 years.

The Schultzes had three children, all of whom have been involved in the ministry of the church.

Ninna, the wife of Rev. Ben Engskov, now retired, lives in Fremont, Nebraska.

Inga, who is now married to Edward Larsen of Cedar Falls, Iowa, was the wife of Dr. William Larsen who from 1956 to 1960 was the president of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church with offices in Blair. The family lived on West Washington Street. Dr. Larsen became a Vice-President of the new merged church now known as the American Lutheran Church. He passed away a few years ago, and his widow married Edward Larsen.

Rev. John Schultz is a pastor in LaMesa, California.

Nine grandchildren survive Pastor Schultz.

A memorial service for Pastor Schultz will be held at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home on December 26 and interment will be in Elk Horn, Iowa.
