Kenneth M. Peterson, 90, of Arlington, died Friday, May 25, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 31, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Military honors were provided at Memorial Cemetery by the Fremont Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854.

Kenneth M. Peterson was born July 31, 1916, in Fremont to Jack and Lillian (Moore) Peterson. He lived most of his life in Fremont before moving to Arlington 16 years ago.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1941-1945. He was the recipient of a number of medals while serving in the military, including the American Defense Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, and the American Service Medal.

Mr. Peterson operated the Dixie Crème Donut Shop in Fremont, then was a printer for the Omaha World Herald and the Omaha Sun newspapers. He operated Ken’s Skelly service station, located at 6th and H streets in Fremont. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he was a rural carrier for 11 years.

He was a member of the Fremont Eagles Aerie No. 200, VFW Post No. 854, and had been appointed an Admiral in the Great Navy of the state of Nebraska.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Dan Layman of Arlington; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Deborah Peterson of Fremont; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Rosemary Brown of Hooper and Elaine Redding of Fremont.
