Dorothy Gallagher, 92

Dorothy (Stewart) Gallagher, 92, of Omaha, died March 15, 2006, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair. Funeral services were Tuesday, March 21, at the Roeder Mortuary in Omaha. Interment was in the Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Dorothy Gallagher was born April 4, 1913, on a farm 12 miles northwest of Blair to Roscoe and Mabel (Wright) Stewart. In 1917, the family moved to a farm near LaPlatte, returning in 1919 to the Wranch School area. She attended Wranch School, then graduated from Blair High School in May 1931.

She obtained a teacher's certificate and began teaching in Washington and Douglas counties driving to Nashville School, Fort Calhoun, and Pershing School in east Omaha. During this time, she attended classes at the University of Omaha and earned a bachelor of education degree. She joined the Omaha Public Schools in 1951, teaching at Kellom, Belvedere, Central Park and Dundee until she retired in August 1976.

She was a 50-year member in the Order of the Eastern Star, Owaissa Chapter 296, Omaha. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Gene Buscherhof of Littleton, Colo.; two granddaughters; sisters and brother in-law, Lorraine Hartman of Omaha, Lois and Dale Diefenbaugh of Fort Calhoun; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, John B. Gallagher; brother, Roland Stewart; and sister, Marjorie Reno.
