Washington County native Myrtle Peterson, 102, of Fremont died July 10, 2004, at the A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont, with the Rev. Roger Eng of the Fremont Alliance Church officiating. Interment will be in Fremont’s Memorial Cemetery.

Myrtle Peterson was born June 28, 1902, on the family farm near Blair to Martin and Clara (Hansen) Rasmussen. She attended school in Nebraska; in Canada, where her parents homesteaded; and in California.

She lived with her family in Mexico for one year. The family was evacuated by the United States Navy when war broke out with Pancho Villa.

On June 22, 1923, she married Amandus L. Peterson in Fontanelle. The couple farmed in Washington County near Fontanelle, and in Dodge County. In 1950, the couple moved to Fremont. Mrs. Peterson worked in Fremont as a seamstress for the Herman Petersen Clothing company.

She was a member of the Fremont Alliance Church.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Geraldine Bruch of Hayes, Kan., and Joan and Marvin Hahn of Kimberling City, Mo.; a son and daughter-in-law, LeeRoy and Ellen Peterson of Clearwater, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Walter Knapp of Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and a daughter-in-law.

Memorials are suggested to the Women’s Ministry of the Fremont Alliance Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
