Oscar G. Peterson, 92

Blair native Oscar G. Peterson, 92, died Oct. 15, 2003, in Beaverton, Ore.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Blair Cemetery.

Oscar G. Peterson was born Sept. 21, 1911, in Blair to Karl and Anna Peterson. He lived in Blair until joining the U.S. Army in 1943. While in the Army, he served stateside as well as in Japan, Norway, and Vietnam. During his stay in Norway, he was assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Oslo. During his 21 years of service, he earned the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After retiring from the armed services, he lived the majority of his life in Seattle, Wash. He later worked for the U.S. government as a civilian employee in the supply department.

After retiring from the Civil Service, Mr. Peterson devoted much of his time to volunteering and social organizations. He was a long-time member of the Masonic Temple in Blair (Washington Lodge No. 21); and was a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry in Seattle and the Swedish Club of Seattle. He also held member-ships in the BPOE No. 1800 of Lake City (Seattle), Wash., Shrine Nile Temple, Seattle, the Retired Officers Association and the Reserve Officers Association.

In 1943, he married Frances C. Goodrich; she died in 1979. In 1981, he married Mary C. Opray, who died earlier this year. His only son, Gary W. Peterson of Mesa, Ariz., survives Mr. Peterson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Masonic Temple of Blair.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
