Dorothy A. Gross, 89, of Blair, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday, Oct. 10, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dorothy Ann Flick was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Tripp, S.D., to Claus and Francis Flick. She graduated from Scotland High School in 1938 and on Aug. 4, 1942, she married Frank Gross in Hartington. The couple moved to Evansville, Ind., and Bremerton, Wash., during World War II.

In 1946, they returned to Beresford, S.D., and, in 1965, they settled in Blair. Mrs. Gross served many years in the food department at Dana College.

She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the Royal Neighbors of America. She loved sports and was an avid Husker fan. She enjoyed attending band and choir concerts, cooking, crocheting, taking morning walks, eating out with friends and she never missed the daily crossword puzzle. She loved her grandchildren dearly and enjoyed being part of their lives. She will be remembered as a selfless person with a great sense of humor, and will be forever missed.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Gross; her sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Vicki Gross of Ames, Iowa, Tim and Deb Gross, and Steve Gross, all of Blair; four grandchildren, Eric Gross and his wife, Heather, Jeff Gross and his wife, Heather, Emily Gross, Abby Gross; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Adams of Walnut Creek, Calif.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Merle Flick, and sister, Lois Spencer.

Memorials are suggested to the Blair Community Schools Foundation for the Blair High School Band.
