Richard S. Burmeister, 84, of Fort Calhoun, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, in Fremont.

Services will be Saturday, Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church.Interment will be in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery with military honors provided by the Fort Calhoun American Legion Post 348.Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun.

Richard S. Burmeister was born Feb. 10, 1929, on the family farm west of Fort Calhoun to John and Elizabeth Burmeister. He was raised on the farm and was the youngest of 10 children.

He attended grade school at Long Creek and graduated from Fort Calhoun High School.

He served in the U.S. Army and served in Korea.

He married Lona Heany on May 20, 1950, at the First Presbyterian Church in Omaha.

He farmed in Washington County and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and playing cards, especially pitch in town at the Longhorn Bar.

Mr. Burmeister was a member of the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, Solomon Lodge 10, Naomi Chapter 121 Order of the Eastern Star, Fort Calhoun American Legion Post 348, Washington County and Nebraska Cattlemen, Fort Calhoun Township board, Farm Service Agency and was a County Committee member.

He is survived by his wife, Lona Burmeister of Fort Calhoun; son, Rick (Shirley) Burmeister of Fort Calhoun; daughter Renee (Dave) Sheets of Blair; sister Helen (George) Jipp of Blair; grandchildren: Julie and J.P. Emmons, Sarah and Neil Gohl and Charlie and John Sheets; great-grandchildren: James and Joslyn Emmons and Clayton Gohl; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers: Bill, Arnold, Carl and John; sisters: Elsie Rathjen, Louise Jones, Margaret Erixon and Myra Sachs; and foster son Jack Miers.

Memorials are suggested to the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church, Fort Calhoun American Legion Post 348 or the donor’s choice.

VISITATION AND MASONIC SERVICE Friday, January 31, 2014 from 5-8pm with Masonic Service at 7pm at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home. FUNERAL SERVICE Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 10:30am at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church. Interment in Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Military Honors provided by Fort Calhoun American Legion Post # 348.
