Family everything for crash victim –by Stephanie Ludwig, Reporter

If there’s one thing Pamela Schwedhelm’s family can take comfort in, it’s the fact that the mother of six devoted her life to her children.

“Family was the most important thing to her, and her faith,” said Shelly Schwedhelm, Pamela Schwedhelm’s sister-in-law. “She spend a lot of time going to her kids’ activities, and was just very involved in them.”

Pam Schwedhelm, 39, of rural Kennard was killed Tuesday morning in a car accident on Hwy. 30. According to sheriff’s reports, Schwedhelm’s vehicle was entering the highway from County Road 21 when it was struck by a westbound semi. The driver of the semi, Edward Morris, 53, of Bagley, Iowa, was uninjured but Schwedhelm suffered massive injuries. She was pronounced dead at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

The accident is currently being investigated by the sheriff’s office. Slick roads and poor visibility due to fog may have played a part in the tragedy. The highway was closed for about 4 hours after the accident.

Pam Schwedhelm’s life centered around her husband, Alan, and their children, five daughters and one son, ranging in age from 17 down to 4. According to her best friends, Jenny Becker and Gena Karr, both of Arlington, nothing was more important than family and friends.

“Her children were active in horse and dog 4-H, dance squad, volleyball, trapshooting, basketball, cross country, track and The September Project,” the two wrote in a statement. “She didn’t just drop them off at the door either—she participated in many of these activities right along with her children. She enjoyed shooting trap, was a great stage mom for TSP, volunteering to drive wherever needed. At 4-H, she was up in the saddle right along with the kids.”

In addition to her family, Schwedhelm’s passions included photography and the six horses on her family’s property in rural Kennard.

She won several awards for her photography, including sixth place and an award of excellence in the National Photo Awards contest in October 2008 and The Enterprise photo contest in 2008.

She was also an avid hunter and rider, and raised birds on her family’s ranch.

Schwedhelm also led confirmation classes at her church.

She had recently started a home-based scented candle business in order to spend more time with family. According to her Website, Schwedhelm loved doing it. “I have found a business that is helping me achieve my dream of being home with my children. And I get to include them in it, too,” she wrote.

Her children attend school in Arlington, which kept her busy going to sporting events, dance team practices and music concerts.

Arlington superintendent Lynn Johnson said grief counselors were available at the school for students an that the district was assisting the family with whatever needs their children might have.

Kennard mother of six dies in 2-vehicle accident—by Kevin Cole, World-Herald staff writer.

A 39-year old mother of six died Tuesday at an Omaha hospital following a two-vehicle crash on U.S.Highway 30 just west of Kennard, Neb.

Pamela Schedhelm of rural Kennard was pronounced dead at the Nebraska Medical Center, a Washington County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.

Schwedhelm is survived by her husband, Alan, five daughters and a son, according to the Web site for her scented candle business.

She was alone in her car. The occupant of the other vehicle, Edward Morris, 53, of Bagley, Iowa, was not injured.

Chief Deputy Ben Scherer said deputies were called to the accident near the intersection of Highway 30 and County Road 21 at 10:50 a.m.

Scherer said Schwedhelm was driving south on County Road 21 when she was hit on the driver’s side by a westbound semitrailer truck. The truck had the right of way.

There is a stop sign at the intersection for traffic traveling on the county road, Scherer said.

Investigators determined that the roadways were wet and visibility was limited to about one-half mile at the time.
