Father of Arlington Lady Died at Blair

Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 28, in Tekamah, at 2 p.m. at Hamel and Peck Funeral Home for Merrill (Mac) L. McDonough. Rev. Glenn Kennicott officiated.

Mr. McDonough, who had operated Mac’s Garage for a number of years, died Friday, April 25, at Blair.

Pallbearers were Jay Bacon, George Metzler, Truman Marsh, James Otteman, Gerald Wortman and Neil Kjeldgaard.

Merrill Lewis McDonough was born December 31, 1914, at Macedonia,Ia., the son of Michael Layton and Gertrude Ross McDonough.

On January 8, 1935, he married Lena Brown of Modale, Ia., at Missouri Valley. They were parents of nine children. They made their home in Missouri Valley until 1951 when they moved to Tekamah.

Survivors include his wife, his mother, Mrs. Gertrude Jones of Bell, Calif.; one son, Mervyn of Tekamah; eight daughters, Winnifred Brummer of Woodbine, Ia., Mrs. Don Cline, (Myrna), of Woodburn, Ore., Mrs. Leroy Bottcher, (Marian) of Syracuse, Nebr., Mrs. Don Loges, (Carolyn), of Arlington, Mrs. Richard Schutt (Clara), of Fremont, Mrs. Dave Belden, (Dorothy), of South Sioux City, Nebr., Mrs. Delbert Hansen, (Louise) of Pender, and Deborah at home.

Also surviving are three brothers, Ross of Lytton, Ia., Thomas of Cudahy, Calif., and Gene of El Sobrante, Calif.; one half-brother, Donald Smith of Van Nuys, Calif.; two sisters, Clara Utman of Bell, Calif., and Marjorie Crowe of Burbank, Calif., and 22 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

Burial was in Tekamah Cemetery.
