Elton T. Carper, 85, died July 6, 2005, at his home in Fremont.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 18, in the United Lutheran Church in Scribner. Interment will be in the Scribner Cemetery.

Elton T. Carper was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Mecklin, S. D., to Leonard and Imogene (Blair) Carper. He grew up in eastern Nebraska on the farm with his earlier childhood years spent near Wisner, and later on the farm near Waterloo. He graduated from Waterloo High School. He farmed with his parents near Scribner after high school.

On May 5, 1950, he married Donna Witt in the United Lutheran Church in Scribner. They farmed all their working years in the Scribner area. Mr. Carper also worked for the Scribner Alfalfa Mill for several years. He served on the District 29 School Board.

The Carpers moved to Fremont in the 1980’s.

He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Jan Carper of Hastings, and David and Joelene Carper of Clarinda, Iowa; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and John Nielsen of Blair, and Shellie and Neil Panning of Hooper; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Louella Holst, Orma Nourse of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Carolyn and Don Moseman of Baldwin City, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna in 2001; an infant daughter; four brothers and two sisters.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
