CHRISTOPHER CARSON BURIED IN LOGAN

Christopher N. “Kit” Carson, eldest son of Marshall and Emeline Carson, passed away after a brief illness on June 26 at Memorial Hospital in Blair, Nebraska.

He was born January 7, 1875 in Soldier, Iowa of pioneer parents. His father came from Bangor, Maine in 1850 to work in the forests in Minnesota and later rode “wagon trains” Omaha to Denver.

Mr. Carson grew up on a farm west of Logan and in 1898 was united in marriage with Ella B. Hardy, who passed away in 1967. They had four children, Homer L. Carson, Columbus, Nebraska, Charles E. Carson (deceased), Raymond E. Carson, Denver, Colorado and Doris (Mrs. Richard) Webb, McLean, Virginia. Surviving also are eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Phebe Latta of Logan, and two brothers, Edgar M. Carson, Logan and Dr. Herbert Carson of Clinton, Iowa.

The early part of his married life was spent farming near Logan. Later he was associated with Standard Oil Co. selling both locally and throughout the nearby counties.

He served two terms as Mayor of Logan, and was the City Water Commissioner prior to his retirement in 1958. In 1962 he and Mrs. Carson moved to Blair, Nebraska and resided at the Crowell Memorial Home. He continued to be active almost to the time of his death. His spirit of love, kindness and cheerfulness was an inspiration to all who knew him.

The Rev. Robert Evans, pastor of First Christian Church of Logan, of which Mr. Carson was a member, was in charge of the services. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. Marshall Carson, Rex Carson, Randall Carson, Gene Pearsall, Robert Harvey and Donald Clark.

In lieu of flowers , the family suggests bequests be made as memorials to the First Christian Church of Logan or to the Crowell Memorial Home, Blair, Nebraska.
