Kermit Schurman, 96

Kermit Schurman, 96, of Nickerson, died Sunday night, April 14, 2002, at the Nye Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fremont.

Funeral services were Wednesday, April 17, at Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle with the Rev. Charles W. Bichel officiating. Interment was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

Kermit Schurman was born Nov. 23, 1905, in Fontanelle to Adolph and Julianna (Beineke) Schurman. He grew up in Fontanelle and received his education there.

On Feb. 25, 1932, he married Clara Mengedoht in Fontanelle. The couple farmed all their working years in the Nickerson and Fontanelle areas.

Mr. Schurman was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle and had served on the church council for many years. He served 27 years on the board of directors of the Nickerson Farmer’s union, and he served on the District 87 School Board.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Carroll and Phyllis Schurman of Nickerson; two grandchildren and their spouses, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, an infant son, five brothers and a sister.

Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
