Alfred “Al” T. Schutt, 84

Alfred “Al” T. Schutt, 84, of Norfolk, died Thursday, Jan 10, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Norfolk.

Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk, with Father Jim Keiter officiating. Interment was at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk. Military rites were provided by American Legion Post No. 16, and V.F.W. post No. 1644 of Norfolk.

Alfred T. Schutt was born Jan. 16, 1917 in Randolph to Bill and Hannah (Huff) Schutt. He attended grade school in Cedar County and graduated in 1935 from Randolph High School.

He served in the military from Aug. 24, 1942, until Oct. 31, 1945, and was stationed in the European Theater during World War II.

On June 10, 1947, he married Ileen Kessler in Randolph.

He farmed in the Randolph and Wayne area until moving to Norfolk in 1965. He worked in construction until he semi-retired in 1984, but continued to stay active in construction until 1999.

He was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the American Legion and the V.F.W. in Norfolk.

He is survived by his wife, Ileen, five daughters and sons-in-law, Louise Logston of Polk, Darlene and Steve Watson of Plano, Texas, Rogene and Tom Hoff, and Susann and Dale Muehlmeier, all of Norfolk, Jeanette and Joel Lilavois of Plano, and a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Lisa Schutt of Arlington, sister, Gladys Backer of Randolph, and two brothers, Fern and Merle Schutt, both of Randolph, and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law.

Johnson-Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk was in charge of arrangements.
