William B. Carter
Died on 6/2/1902
Buried in Blair Cemetery

Published in the Blair Courier June 5, 1902.

William B. Carter died of cardiac sun-stroke at about 4 o’clock last Monday afternoon while plowing for Dr. Searles on a farm south of town. His companion went to the house for some water and when he returned Will was dead. Dr. Robinson was summoned at once but of course nothing could be done. His sisters, Maud and Anne, were also notified and grief stricken they were driven hurriedly to the spot where he had fallen only to have their worst fears realized, for he was beyond the sound of even a sister’s voice.

The funeral was held at the house, located just across the street from the Baptist church, at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon, Rev. C. E. Tingley officiating. He was an honorary member of the Blair Fire Department and about thirty members of that body attended the funeral in uniform.

He was also a K. O. T. M. and that order took charge of the services at the grave. He carried a policy for $2,000 in this order payable to his sisters, Anne and Maud. Beside these there are two other sisters, Mrs. R. H. Yoeman, of Omaha, and Mrs. Ellen Foss, of this city. George, a conductor on the M &O, and Robert are brothers. Their mother has been dead for many years and several years after their father, Nathan, fell backward out of a wagon while loading coal down near the M & O depot and was killed. A brother, Fred, was drowned up at Tyson’s lake some years ago, thus making three members of the family who have met sudden or accidental deaths. The entire community sympathizes with them in this sad bereavement.
