Two killed, two injured in Highway 133 crash By Tricia Barber Washington County Enterprise and Pilot Tribune

Two women were killed and a man and woman were injured in a three-vehicle accident on Highway 133 Wednesday morning.

Sara N. Jorgenson, 29, of Kennard, and Joanne E. Roche, 74, of Kennard, were killed instantly in the head-on collision about 9 a.m., said Capt. Kevin Willis of the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The accident was just south of County Road 36 near Skinny Bones and Santa's Woods where the new highway pavement begins southbound.

Ronald V. Roche, 74, of Kennard, was flown by LifeNet to Creighton Medical Center in Omaha.

Helen I. Langdon, 52, of Omaha, was taken by the Kennard Rescue Squad to Memorial Community Hospital and Health System in Blair for treatment, then transferred to Creighton Medical Center in Omaha.

The four were the only passengers in the vehicles.

Willis said the investigation determined the southbound white 2002 Buick driven by Jorgenson crossed the center line and sideswiped a northbound black 1999 Toyota, driven by Langdon. The southbound car then continued on and hit a third vehicle, a red 1994 Ford Explorer, driven by Ronald V. Roche.

Willis said he had no information on the condition of the people transported for care.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families," Willis said.

The investigation into the accident is continuing.

Sheriff Mike Robinson said at the scene that vehicle speed was not a factor in the accident. Sun glare or any kind of distraction could have caused the accident, he said.

"There was no indication that the construction zone had any factor in the accident," Robinson said.

Deputies diverted traffic from Highway 133 for more than three hours.

Kennard, Fort Calhoun and Bennington fire and rescue squads responded to the scene.
