ALDEN “AL” DUNNIING, 69

Services for Alden “Al” Dunning, 69 of Omaha, who died at Methodist Hospital in Omaha August 24, 1995 were Saturday, August 26 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair.

Alden Avery Dunning was born August 18, 1926 at Minneapolis, Minnesota to Joy and Margaret Avery Dunning.

He purchased the Clifton Hotel in Blair in 1969. In 1984, he sold it and moved to Omaha. He worked in the grain commodity business through 1988 and as office manager at Coakley Industrial Services, Inc. for the past seven years.

He was active in the Omaha and Fort Calhoun Community Theater productions. He received the Clarence Teal Cameo Award for his performance in “Social Security” in 1990. He also performed in a number of television commercials and was cast in the Hallmark production of “O Pioneers.” He was the founder of the Blair Chapter of AA and served as a facilitator for widowed and divorced Catholics coping groups.

He married Marilyn Otto in 1952. She preceded him in death August 24, 1981.

He married Sue Gustafson in 1994.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn; one brother, Robert Dunning and a step-brother, Conrad Christensen.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; a daughter, Patricia Zweerink, Omaha; three sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Jeanette Dunning, Apple Valley, Minnesota; Anthony and Diane Dunning, Rogers, Arkansas; and Matthew and Chris Dunning, Omaha; nine grandchildren; four stepchildren and their spouses, Phillip Gustafson, Rocky, Illinois; Jeffrey and Callie Gustafson, Hawaii; Steven and Melissa Gustafson, Omaha; and Daniel Gustafson, Omaha; one step-granddaughter; one sister, Janet Haroldson, Rembrandt, Iowa; and one brother, Victor Christensen, Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
